Red Hook Fest (May 30 - June 1) Begins Festivities Tonight!



This evening kicks off the festivities for the 20th Annual Red Hook Fest

This free 20th annual festival's theme and truly Red Hook's undercurrent in the past months has been "Rebuild, Restore, Rebirth: Resilience after Sandy."  The annual Red Hook Earth and Surf Parade has even been reborn this year - after an 11 year lull! Festivity Lineup:
  • Thursday, May 30th from 6pm - 8pm at the Miccio Center (110 West 9th St) - Youth Kick-Off Event
  • Friday, May 31st from 6pm - 9pm at PS 15 (71 Sullivan St)  - Community BBQ & Dance Party
  • Red Hook Rebirth Parade begins from Coffey Park (Richards St & Pioneer St) at 10 am on Saturday, June 1st  

The mainstage performances will take place at Valentino Pier & Park and the festival will include special activities such as free Kayak rides in New York Harbor thanks to the Red Hook Boaters and other various fun and activities for all ages sponsored by community partners.

Help Keep Portside NY Open


Portside needs a new home confirmed by 4/30 or they will close and their historic ship, the tanker MARY A. WHALEN would likely be scrapped.

To help, sign their petition to Mayor Bloomberg here and forward the petition link! (link is http://chn.ge/PortSideSOS). 


Portside is a young non-profit organization that run programs to educate the community about waterfront history and promote waterways. Check out their site for more ways you can help!

Author Festival at the Waterfront Museum - Sat 26 from noon to 4pm

The festival is curated by author Gabriel Cohen featuring live readings and talks by authors who have written books with a waterfront or maritime theme. The authors' books will be presented for sale by cosponsor BookCourt bookstore. Pinataland, Brooklyn's longstanding "dark old history" Americana band will be on deck, performing a special selection of sea and waterway-related songs.

Sail on the Clipper City

PortSide NewYork, New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), and Manhattan By Sail Inc. are making available 550 free tickets for sails on the Clipper City Tall Ship, a 158' long topsail schooner.

The Clipper City Tall Ship will depart from Pier 11, Atlantic Basin, next to the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. The ship can take up to 145 passengers at a time. Rides are about one and a half hours long and will depart on the following days and times:

Fri 4/30 10:00 a.m.
Sat 5/1 10:00 a.m.
Fri 5/7 10:00 a.m.
Sat 5/8 10:00 a.m.

As of Fri 4/16/10, 240 free tickets will be distributed via the web here

If someone does not use the web, physical tickets are availableas of Fri 4/16/10 at the office of Brooklyn Community Board 6 (250 Baltic Street, between Court Street and Clinton Street) from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

Tickets are limited to two per person.

Tickets at Community Board 6 that have not been picked up 3 days before the sail, will become available on line.


Note: cars enter at Bowne + Imlay Street. Pedestrians can enter there or gate at Pioneer + Conover Streets.

This is inaugural event for the season. Other summer programs will be announced in early May.
