Last game of the season for the Brooklyn Women's Rugby Team

The last game of the season is this Saturday, June 6th, at 11:00 am. It'll be at the fields they're usually on, Field 3 in Red Hook Park, across from the intersection of Bay St. and Hicks St.

Here are some hilarious pictures of the last game: the players were all wearing prom dresses, and not many gowns were left standing:

Before the game: all pretty

Roughing it: Notice the t-shirt

Wow

Hope you can make the last game!

Brooklyn Women's Rugby team is having a "Rugby in Prom Dress" event!

Prom Dress Rugby
(
Corsages are optional)

The event takes place May 23, 2009 on Field 3 in Red Hook Park, at 11:00am.
Prom dress Rugby is simply that: for the sheer hilarity of it, players repurpose a prom dress, usually the ugliest one they can find, as a rugby uniform. By the end of the match the dress is a mess, but a good time has been had by all. It’s the catfight that you always wished would happen at your own prom, but never did.

The field is located across from the intersection of Bay Street and Hicks Street in Red Hook, right by the Ikea. Nearest subways are Borough Hall (2/3/4/5/M/R trains), Jay St (A/C/F trains, joined with Borough Hall even though not on map), Smith & 9th Street (F/G trains), and 4th Ave (F/M/R trains).

Brooklyn Women's Rugby in Red Hook!

Brooklyn Women’s Rugby was started two years ago by five players, most of them with no previous rugby experience. A regular Rugby team has fifteen players, and after a lot of work recruiting and practicing to become a competitive team in the New York Rugby League they are up to 25 players and are having their first game this season on their home field in Red Hook.

As you can see from the attached photos, we take our rugby seriously, even if we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Rugby is a complex, full contact game, but it is also supremely entertaining to watch and play, even if you may be uncertain about the rules.

The team is very excited to have their first home game next Saturday, May 2nd, at 11:00 am at the Red Hook Park and Recreation Center.

Spread the word and show up for a good time!

As a French citizen myself, I have been missing the excitement of seeing our national XV de France fight it out against the New Zealand All Blacks, among the many impressive and international teams.
