The Summit Street Community Garden is having a tag and bake sale with delicious baked goods, coffee, herbal tea, lemonade and popcorn, as well as toys, household items, clothes, jewelry and music for sale. All sales go towards beautifying the garden. This event is free.

Halloween Storytime at Summit Street Garden

Please join us for one last hurrah in our lovely Summit Street Garden for a Halloween-themed storytime and singalong!

When: Sunday, November 2nd, from 11:00am - 11:45am
Where: Summit Street Garden lawn, corner of Columbia and Summit
Who: Children of all ages and their families are welcome. Come in costume or come as you are. It's free to all! You may want to bring a blanket to sit on.

Stories will be read by garden member and Brooklyn Public Library children's librarian Andrea Vaughn Johnson, and music will be led by garden member Rob Jost of Little Folkies and the Sesame Street band! 

South Brooklyn Children's Garden Harvest Festival

So much autumnal fun happening in Columbia Waterfront this month! The South Brooklyn Children's Garden is having their third annual Harvest Festival this Saturday Oct. 25 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. (Rain date Sunday, October 26.) The festival will include pumpkin decorating, crafts, educational tables, hay bale rides, an apple press, and music from the Dad Beats. There will be a pie contest at 12:00, with a winner crowned at 12:30. Bakers are invited to bring pies to be judged by a panel of dignitary judges. The winner will receive a free 2015 garden membership with no watering duties or a case of wine and bragging rights!

South Brooklyn Children's Garden is located at 204 Columbia Street (Corner of Sackett and Columbia Streets)

11th Annual Halloween Party and Parade

It's back! The annual Columbia Waterfront Halloween Party and Parade will be on Saturday, November 1st from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mother Cabrini Playground on President Street. The Underground Horns will lead the costume parade around the block and there will be face painting, treats for sale, and other surprises. 

Waterfront Museum Red Hook History Puppet Show

SATURDAY & SUNDAY JULY 12,13,19 & 20 at 3 pm.
"Out of the Box" A multi-discipline show using maps, historic images & puppets.
Advance Tickets: Adults $13, kids $10.

This year, the floating home of the Waterfront Museum turns 100. By following her history, the saga of commerce, transportation and the lives of the people of the working harbor unfold. "Out of the Box" tells the story of this bustling era in NYC history before bridges and tunnels. Based on true stories using maps, models, and puppets, the show aims to entertain and enlighten audiences about what this last-surviving wooden barge carried through the eyes of a barge captain's daughter who grew up on it.

Maritime scholars and almost a dozen old-timers add their oral histories and historical accuracy to the project. The leaders of "Out of the Box" are Deborah Kauffman, a physical actor and puppeteer, Stephen Kaplin director and puppeteer, Alma Sheppard-Matsuo, puppeteer and David Sharps, captain of Lehigh Valley #79 and a former entertainer aboard cruise ships.  

The project is funded in part by the NY Council for the Humanities and the Brooklyn Arts Council NYSCA Regrant Program.

Story time and music at Summit Street Garden Sunday afternoon

Please bring yourselves and your little ones by Summit Street Garden tomorrow from 1:30pm - 2:30pm for story time and music making!

Children's librarian and garden member Andrea Vaughn Johnson (that would be me!) will perform a story time beginning at 1:30pm. Story time will be followed by an interactive music class for the children led by Sesame Street bass player and garden member, Rob Jost. The music class will be suitable for children of all ages.

This will be a very informal event for garden members and our community at large; simply some Sunday neighborhood fun. Bring a blanket and your favorite little ones (and if they have an instrument, bring it along!).
