New trivia night at The Roebling Inn

The Roebling Inn on Atlantic Ave is starting a new trivia night on Monday (4/29) at 8pm. If they get a good turnout, they plan to keep it going once a month. The hosts say this trivia night will stand out. "No annoyingly specific categories and way too difficult questions allowed! Our trivia rounds will be clever and fun." The winning team will get a $50 bar tab and there will be other free beers given away throughout the evening. 

A safer access to Pier 6 on its way!

We got news through the Cobble Hill Association blog that the DOT responded to public outcry (with a little push from elected officials) about the dire street crossing situation on Atlantic Ave toward the Pier 6 playgrounds.


Here are the DOT comments:

-“Stop Here on Red” sign on Atlantic Avenue at the eastbound approach to the on-ramp, to communicate to drivers that they do not have a free left turn when the light ahead is red and the pedestrian indication across the ramp is WALK.

-“Turning Vehicles Yield to Pedestrians” sign on Atlantic Avenue at the westbound approach to the on-ramp, to emphasize to drivers that they must yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk.

- Conducting a traffic study to determine if further signal or regulation changes that will reduce vehicle-pedestrian conflicts at this location are feasible. Additional recommendations will be shared publicly in near future.

- Evaluating medium term opportunities for more significant reconfigurations to the street network around Pier 6 that will assist with bicycle and pedestrian park access, including the intersection of Columbia Street and Atlantic Avenue, and Atlantic Avenue west of Columbia Street.

Let's hope they will act on it before the end of the summer.

ARTWALK 2009, on Atlantic Avenue, June 6th & 7th

This weekend, June 6th and 7th, is the sixth annual Atlantic Avenue ArtWalk.
ArtWalk is a self-guided tour of open artist studios and area exhibitions, a range of public art projects, special events, with local merchants hosting a range of artwork and events. ArtWalk provides a relaxed setting for dialogue, collecting, and for artists to discuss current bodies of work, while offering viewers a glimpse into the creation process.

ArtWalk includes artists across all media, participatory events, film, public art, live music, and activities for families and children of all ages. Visitors can enjoy exhibits, view and buy work, meet the artists and sample the Avenue's restaurants, shops and bars at their own pace. To add to the weekend festivities, local businesses host receptions while area restaurants and bars offer special rates to ArtWalkers throughout the weekend.
