The Revere Sugar Factory site, neighboring Ikea on Beard street, has been the subject of two articles since yesterday. One in the Brooklyn Paper confirming rumors that BJ's had made a deal with Thor Equities, and will be selling flat screen TVs and sunglasses as soon as the rezoning goes through. However, today the New York Post is saying that no such deals have been made, that BJ's is merely one of the many suitors for the site.
Both articles include Marty Markowitz's non-committal statement: “Red Hook — and Brooklyn — are open for business, but while welcoming major retailers to our borough could bring economic vitality and much-needed jobs to previously underserved and underutilized areas, we must also be sure to ‘grow smart’ and preserve a neighborhood’s character."
Where is Brooklyn Brewery? Where is the promised Red Hook Winery?
On the upside, a 68-year-old Manhattan landmark will be moving in on Reed street, the Cheyenne Diner.
